AUSTIN, Texas -- In a story Dec. 5, The Associated Press reported that ongoing troubles with the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas began in May with a $20 million award that was insufficiently reviewed. The story should have made clear that although the state agency has acknowledged making missteps in its awarding of the grant, at that time its rules did not require that type of proposal to be subjected to a scientific peer review.
