Be Healthy At Home - The Center for Health and Nutrition

As you lose weight in Naperville, Oak Brook or St. Charles, make your home healthy

Do you live in a healthy home? Before you answer, know that I?m not asking if your walls have lead-based paint, if your building is insulated with asbestos or even if you live in a good neighborhood. The real question is: how optimized is your home for medical weight loss?

As you lose weight, you?ll likely visit many different places that help you along the path to a slimmer body. Your gym, the supermarket, your weight loss center, your favorite park?all of them can help you lose weight, but you may not visit them every day. Because home is where we?re most likely to prepare meals and spend time every day, you?ll need to make your abode the best possible place to lose weight and live healthy.

Think your home has what it takes to become the ultimate weight loss sanctuary? Start redesigning your dwelling with these tips:

Make your home fit for fitness.

Let?s say you?ve signed up with the perfect gym, one with every amenity imaginable. Though it?s a 15-minute drive from your house, you?ve deemed that daily trip worth it to take advantage of everything the gym has to offer.

But when you arrive home exhausted from a hard day?s work, you find that your dreams of hitting the gym quickly go up in smoke. Your motivation wanes, excuses arise and your butt stays firmly planted on the couch. If only you could bring the gym to you.

You may not be able to fill your home with the expensive equipment of a state-of-the-art fitness center, but you can make at-home exercise possible. If you gather even the simplest fitness gear?barbells, exercise bands, a yoga mat?you can still get all the benefits of a daily workout without even leaving your home.

If you have a spare room, try setting it up as an exercise area, or just keep some fitness gear near your TV to squeeze a few reps in as you watch your favorite shows. Though you may want to keep the gym membership, you may be surprised by what a big difference even a little at-home exercise makes.

Clean out your kitchen.

Regardless of the diet plan you?re on, there are probably a few foods hanging around your house that won?t do you any good as you lose weight. Ice cream, cookies, candy, chips, anything fatty, sugary or processed?this stuff has got to go.

Comb through your pantry, cabinets, fridge and freezer and get rid of anything that doesn?t meet the needs of your healthy new lifestyle, then fill the void with fresh fruits, veggies and the things you?ll need during medical weight loss. If others in your household object, just ask them to keep junk foods out of sight so they can stay out of mind. Tell them how important it is for your kitchen and home to be free of temptation and ask that they make healthy foods more accessible.
